Since its creation in 2013, the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Quatuor has incarnated in gold, titanium and silicon variations. In 2017, Roger Dubuis presented to the world the state-of-the-art CarTech Micro-Melt BioDur CCMTM variant of the Excalibur Quatuor. Today, the brand that “dares to be different” has added another feather to its innovative cap by combining the Quatuor calibre with multi-layer carbon. Being over 60 per cent lighter than gold, Carbon is not a particularly difficult material to machine under normal circumstances, but the design demands of the latest Excalibur calls for exceptionally challenging precision cutting. This is why the Quatuor Carbon is restricted to just an eight-piece limited edition.

The Quatuor calibre was Roger Dubuis’ revolutionary response to the challenges of gravity.

Stemming from seven years of R&D and protected by two patents, the Quatuor features four sprung balances set at 45-degree angles. The four sprung balances of the RD101SQ series work together and instantly adjust themselves to mitigate the effects of gravity on the movement, whereas a Tourbillon can take around a minute. As of today, Roger Dubuis is still the only maison to have mastered such a complicated calibre. It has a power reserve of 40 hours.

The multi-layered carbon is used to construct the 48mm case, fluted bezel and crown. The case, water resistant up to 30m, has a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and red metalization on top, while the case back is titanium black DLC with sapphire crystal. The skeleton dial features black carbon with red highlights and offers views of the hours and minute hands in 18K white gold with red tips, the five differentials and the four sprung balances, as well as the 40 hours power-reserve indicator. The strap is black soft barénia leather with red stitching while the adjustable folding buckle is titanium black DLC.

The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Collection combines high watch-making technology and natural elegance. In this collection, movements are often skeleted, giving them a sharp look, and the materials chosen are among the most luxurious and innovative.
