The KS 05 Titanium Moss Agate is a unique piece by Kross Studio created exclusively for Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the independent Swiss watch manufacturer’s longstanding partner in the UAE. The latest addition to this highly exclusive collection of timepieces featuring a central floating tourbillon set on hard stone dials – in this case moss agate – is housed in a 45mm brushed titanium case.
It joins Kross Studio’s previous mineral dial timepiece – featuring stones such as blue aventurine, turquoise and meteorite – presented in a range of case options crafted in 18-karat red gold or grade 5 titanium. Each of the previous KS 05 series was produced only in a limited series of ten pieces, or as a unique piece to meet the demands of discerning collectors.
The dial of the KS 05 Titanium Moss Agate is composed of two distinct parts. The outer dial forms a static monochrome frame to the dynamic central display of the stone and the movement with the floating tourbillon as its centrepiece. Circular satin-brushed and finished in black PVD, the outer dial features an engraved railway track filled with white lacquer. The indexes are rhodium-plated, satin-finished, and filled with white Super-LumiNova.
The inner dial, made of moss agate, plays with transparency. Designed with an opening at 9 o’clock, it is fixed on the movement’s plate. It allows a glimpse of the movement and its traditional watchmaking finishes, visible between the filaments embedded in the stone.
Moss agate is a specific variety of agate that is formed from mineral deposits within the cavities of volcanic rocks. It acquires a distinctive appearance from the mossy-looking filaments or dendrites inside. Its transparency varies depending on the density of the mineral deposits it contains, making each stone unique.
The circular satin finish grade 5 titanium case lends this timepiece an elegant, modern aesthetic while providing a pleasant tactile sensation. Devoid of lugs, angles or a crown, the case is highly ergonomic. Instead of the traditional crown, we have a push-button integrated into the case at 3 o’clock for setting the time. To wind the movement, a D-ring is integrated seamlessly into the transparent case back.
The watch’s manual winding mechanical movement, the KS 7’005, is composed of 220 components including twenty-seven jewels. Its main functions, including winding, energy accumulation, regulation, and display, are coaxial and placed on the central axis. The barrel features a larger diameter than that of the plate’s radius and delivers a power reserve of 120 hours.
Its components are staggered at various levels. The balance wheel overlooks the barrel and the patented central floating tourbillon over its fixed seconds wheel, which in turn, is elevated above the movement and hands. The movement’s innovative peripheral hour display mechanism is achieved by a planetary gear system mounted on two ball bearings designed to free the tourbillon from any obstruction.
The domed, oversized sapphire crystal invites admiration of the movement’s complexity from every angle. The crystal has an anti-reflective coating on both its outer and inner surfaces as well as anti-UV and anti-static treatments applied inside the crystal, making it highly invisible. The KS 05 watches come with two straps, and the interchangeable system allows the wearer to change the strap with a simple click.
The unique KS 05 Titanium Moss Agate watch is available exclusively at Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons in the United Arab Emirates. Other timepieces from the KS 05 collection are available for purchase through authorized retailers and through Kross Studio’s website.
