Hotel de la Ville – a property as unique as the place it calls home

A new luxurious addition has been made to the beautiful city of Rome as the highly anticipated Hotel de la Ville made a debut in the heart of the city. It is the second property by Rocco Forte Hotels in Rome. Boasting a stunning location just above the Spanish Steps, the hotel is the result of a transformation of an 18th-century palazzo into an elegant hideaway with sky-high views over Via Sistina and Rome’s rooftops.

“Rome will forever be one of the top destinations in the world for both business and leisure travellers. It embodies the intricacies and wonders of Italy throughout the ages whilst being perfectly contemporary. I am so proud of Hotel de la Ville; it has all the vibrancy and elegance of this extraordinary city.”

Sir Rocco Forte, Chairman and CEO of Rocco Forte Hotels

Olga Polizzi, Rocco Forte’s director of design, teamed up with Tommaso Ziffer, an Italian designer/architect who has a long-time relationship with Rocco Forte Hotels. The design duo took inspiration from the era of the Grand European Tour, and the result is art-filled spaces that blend plush contemporary decor with classical influences.

The 104 rooms and suites are billed as some of the most spacious and most elegant in Rome. The signature suites offer unrivalled panoramic views of the city from their large terraces. The magnificent Suite de la Ville located on the 8th floor, and accessible by a private elevator, is the hotel’s crown jewel, furnished with a curated collection of contemporary and antique furniture and its own collection of art, it boasts two panoramic terraces – perfect for entertaining. Handmade wallpaper from local designers Rubelli and Dedar, rich Italian fabrics and historic tapestries from Zardi & Zardi display the lavishness of the 18th century.

An enchanting courtyard housed at the centre of the hotel is a hidden retreat. Designed by George Carter, a designer who specialises in creating gardens inspired by the simple geometry of 17th century, the courtyard embodies the life and spirit of Italy.

The hotel is home to six food and beverage outlets overseen by the celebrated chef Fulvio Pierangelini. The eclectic menu ranges from the most classic of Italian dishes to creative modern Mediterranean delicacies. Highlights include all day dining at Da Sistina followed by Mosaico which is the hotel’s main restaurant overlooking the courtyard and Cielo, a rooftop bar with an emphasis on creatively crafted cocktails.

Another highlight is the 550 square metre Rocco Forte Spa which is the most technically advanced in the capital offering relaxing and indulgent treatments carried out by an expert team of therapists using Irene Forte Skincare products. Bringing a piece of Sicily to Rome, the spa is an all-encompassing healthy retreat for physical and spiritual wellness cocooned in the centre of the bustling Italian capital.

One can say that the hotel’s enviable setting is a destination in itself. From the luxury shopping street of Via Condotti to famous monuments and world class art, Hotel de la Ville is perfectly located to explore the intricacies of the city by foot with the help of the expert team of concierges who can create one of a kind, tailor made experiences. Led by a family who has been in hospitality for four generations, all Rocco Forte hotels are united by their distinctive approach to service ensuring guests experience the best of the cities and surrounding areas.
