The First Images Of Maserati’s Grecale SUV Prototype

Maserati’s new Grecale SUV prototype has been photographed outside its plant on Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena. Maserati’s employees were the first to diffuse these images on social media, as the Italian automaker decided to share the photos with them before anyone else.

Grecale is a compact SUV and slots in beneath the mid-size Levante. Given the market’s seemingly insatiable appetite for SUV’s, in particular compact SUVs, Grecale should contribute significantly to the brand’s revival by bringing in quite a few first-time customers.

Grecale is the fifth model in the current line-up, including the flagship Quattroporte sports luxury saloon, the Ghibli sports executive saloon, the aforementioned Levante introduced in 2014 and MC20. Short for Maserati Corse 2020, the latter is a 2-door, mid-engined supercar that debuted in September 2020. It is powered by Maserati’s Nettuno V6 engine, which features F1-derived technologies adapted for the power unit of a standard production car.

Maserati plans to launch ten new or highly upgraded models by 2023. These do not include the recently introduced Trofeo Collection, which currently comprises Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante models equipped with a powerful 580 hp V8 engine.

The Grecale prototypes are currently undergoing intensive road, circuit and off-road tests in various conditions of use, to acquire vital data before the new SUV’s final setup.

The Grecale will be built in Cassino (Italy), where an investment of about 800 million Euros is planned. The Maserati Grecale is scheduled to receive its World Premiere before the end of 2021.
